Introducing Orono, MN


Today we’re checking out Orono, MN! Located just north of Lake Minnetonka, Orono offers gorgeous homes, great outdoor spaces, and some of the best schools in the state (and even the country!).


Bonus - we’re going to talk Long Lake since it’s located within/surrounded by Orono.


Alright y'all, let’s get into Orono!



Orono Vibes


Orono is located west of the Twin Cities and makes up most of the northern shore of Lake Minnetonka. Lake Minnetonka is the 10th largest lake in Minnesota and is the most used/active lake with year round activity. The entire Lake Minnetonka area is a very highly sought after and has even been home to a number of famous/notable people like Kevin Garnett (NBA Basketball Player), Bruce Dayton (aka Daytons/Target), James J. Hill (the “Empire Builder”), members of the Pillsbury family, and even Lance Armstrong (cyclist and former resident).


Home to some of the best schools in the state and even the country - rated very highly according to niche.com.


Home Price Statistics

With all of those pros, you’re certainly going to pay for it in housing costs. The median list price for homes in Orono is about $1.1 million and the median sales price is $1.3 million. Somewhat equestrian in places, lakefront properties, etc, there are some really amazing homes and properties here.

Pros:

  • Fantastic Schools - some of the best in the state/country

  • Proximity to Lake Minnetonka

  • A wide variety of truly gorgeous homes

  • Small town vibe


Cons:

  • Difficult to navigate because of the lake

  • High cost of living and home prices

  • A bit removed from the Twin Cities core metro

  • Not a very walkable city - car dependent and not a lot of conveniences close by

  • A bit ‘exclusive’
